Yes, this plane is being flown by chickens! There is a sign on the plane as well, but we were never able to read all of it.... something about being too chicken to fly.

As we came in to Sturgeon Bay, there was this nice little park with a beach.

Making the most of the situation
Some people just sat "in the water" and watched us get ready for the day's ride. Robin is in the background at her bike. The bags piled on the pavement are those that were removed from the wet tents.

Fortunately we had everything in our bags in plastic so we did not end up with wet clothing, etc.

Our first stop on Wednesday was just north of Sturgeon Bay. Limestone was quarried here and moved via ships.

Every angle
Ted decided to shoot every possible angle of this.... it was also the last time it we were dry for the day. The rains started just after we left this park and it rained all the way to Bailey's Harbor.

We are gathered here today.......
No, we were not having a meeting or an event.... all the chairs had gotten wet in the rain Tuesday night and/or Wednesday morning. Here at Beantown Campground we tried to dry them out.

Improvised clothes line
The fence around the pool at the campground became a clothes line where many tried to dry out their soggy clothes and bedding. The pool would have been great on our hot days, but in the rain, not many took advantage of it.

Close quarters
Initially all the tents were to be placed on this one hill. We all hoped no one would snore. Eventually we were told we could camp in any open camp spot, but most did not bother to move their tents once pitched.

Wheel & Sprocket
Wheel & Sprocket set up shop at the campground... the inside campers were at the YMCA in Fish Creek. This is the only time we were separated. The disadvantage to the campground was the lack of food being available on the grounds. Fortunately Bailey

Every little restaurant was busy Thurs AM - bikers were hungry! This would also be a short day for biking, so a leisurely start was typical.

Wind Cave park
One of our favorite stops - Wind Cave has wonderful overlooks on Lake Michigan.

When the winds are from the east, the waves crash against the bluffs and have created underwater caves that echo with the crashing waves.

New butterflies
Whitefish Dunes State Park naturalists came out of the building with these butterflies on their hands. They had just hatched and now needed to dry their wings.

Many of us felt like these new butterflies drying their wings after a day of biking in the rain. Not yet able to fly, this was a great opportunity to take pictures of the butterflies.

Sturgeon Canal lighthouse
This lighthouse is on the Lake Michigan entrance to the canal that connects to Green Bay. Our route follows this canal all the way in to Sturgeon Bay.

Sturgeon Bay to Kewaunee
Friday we biked over 70 miles from Sturgeon Bay to Manitowoc. One of the few towns along the way was Kewaunee.

We overnighted at the UW-Manitowoc campus which is right on Lake Michigan. They have a lovely strip of wild flowers just before the shoreline.

The Shuttleguy!
Tym (aka The Shuttleguy) help pitch tents in Manitowoc. He is usually busy with the hotel luggage shuttles, but makes his appearance on our last overnight location. Who could blame him - check our our view - right on Lake Michigan!

Putting up a tent city
The Shuttleguy setup is very organized. They put the tents, chairs, towels and bags out in the area where the tents are to be put up. Then the tents are errected, rainfly's put on, and air mattresses inflated. It takes about 4 hours to put up 50 tents.
